Personality & Traits

General Overview Tyler’s has a rather sunny disposition and maintains an optimistic outlook on life. Generally friendly in nature, he is easily irritated and struggles to mask this. The very smell of coffee is enough to make him nauseous; Tyler prefers various blends of herbal tea instead.

Tyler is incredibly enthusiastic about science and Starfleet’s exploration of the galaxy. Even though it took away from Starfleet’s missions of exploration, Tyler believed in the mission to rescue as many Romulans as possible before their star went nova and felt that it was an abandonment of the Federation’s duty to provide aid, even to an enemy as old as the Romulans.

He considered not applying to the Academy in the wake of the synth attack on Mars but decided it would be a mistake; it would not change anything and would deny him the chance to explore the stars.

With his promotion to Chief Science Officer, Tyler is unsure of his position and worries that he has been promoted too soon. Whether he will grow into his new position and rank or if it will break him remains to be seen.

Hobbies & Interests His greatest love is science, specifically Stellar Sciences. Tyler’s second greatest love is surfing and swimming. He spent many hours during his childhood and teenage years on the beach, in the water. Tyler also enjoys playing racquetball a few times a week and regular fencing sessions. Music is also a passion of his. Though he never learned to play a musical instrument, Tyler loves listening to music and finds it a great way to unwind. He also enjoys reading books on history.

Personal History Tyler John Bradshaw, TJ to his family and close friends, was born in April 2367. His mother was a Starfleet Lieutenant assigned to Starfleet Operations in San Francisco while his father was a Doctor, with the rank of Lieutenant, at the Starfleet Peral Harbour Medical Complex in Hawaii, where Tyler was born. His elder brother, Henry, was born four years earlier while his young sister was born three years later.

The Bradshaw’s lived in Honolulu and were a close-knit family unit. It was there that his mother first introduced him to history, to swimming and, years later, to surfing. It was from his father that he inherited his love of science and music. His love of fencing came from one of the books his father read to him as a child; The Three Musketeers.

Tyler knew from a young age that he wanted to be a Starfleet Science Officer, but that path was thrown in doubt when the ship his mother commanded was destroyed during the Battle of Cardassia. The family was devastated by her loss, especially coming so close to the end of the war, and Tyler wondered if Starfleet was the right choice for him. Ultimately, his father convinced him that Starfleet was the right choice.

Tyler has had two long term relationships, both lasting a few years, but neither became serious enough for marriage, the pressures of the service proving too much to overcome. He hopes one day to find the right man to settle down with but for now he’s happy to focus on his career.

Upon graduating from the Academy, Tyler was commissioned an Ensign and assigned to the Ganymede as a Science Officer within the Stellar Cartography section. In the months that followed, Tyler decided to undertake a distance learning master’s degree in Astrometrics. It was difficult to balance his studies and research with his duties; he was often without a life for that two-year period but in the end he earned his master’s degree.
